Measuring your windows or doors for EcoSmart Roller Shades is simple! Take a moment to read through the advice below, and soon you’ll know how to take measurements for roller shades just like a pro!
Flush Inside Mount means the entire roller shade bracket fits within the window frame. The minimum window frame depth required for a flush mount is 2 1/2″. Bracket covers are not recommended with a flush inside mount.
Shallow Inside Mount means there’s not enough frame depth for a flush mount, so the front of the roller shade bracket will protrude outside the frame and into the room somewhat. This is not uncommon, and it does not affect the operation of the roller shade. A shallow mount can be achieved with as little as 1″ of frame depth. Bracket covers are recommended with a shallow inside mount.
Always provide the width measurement first, then the height. A 24″ x 36″ roller shade is 24″ wide and 36″ high.
Measure the width of the window frame exactly where the shade will be installed – in terms of both the height and depth. For example, if you have significant frame depth, measure near the top of the frame and at the depth of the frame where you intend to install the roller shade.
Measurements should be rounded to the nearest 1/16″.
Although we ask for exact measurements, we will typically round the height up to the nearest inch. Any small amount of extra fabric will be wrapped around the roller and be undetectable.
When ordering, you will have the option of providing us with either the ‘fabric width’ you require or the ‘system width’ you require.
Fabric Width: As you would expect, this is the width you would like the fabric to cover.
System Width: This is the width of the entire roller assembly (roller and brackets, plus optional bracket covers or fascia end caps) at the top of the shade. The roller assembly/system is necessarily wider than the fabric.
Fabric Width is the most common measurement type. System Width is most commonly used when the roller shade will need to fit in a tight space, or on a door when the roller assembly might come into contact with an adjoining wall when opened.
Measure the exact area you want to cover.
Do not make any adjustments or take any deductions.
The width you give us will be the exact width that we make the fabric (for Fabric Width) or the width we make the complete roller assembly (for System Width).
The height you give us will be the exact height of the shade, from the top of the roller assembly to the bottom of the shade.
Measuring the width:
For Fabric Width Measurements: Measure the width in 3 places – near the top of the window, near the middle of the window, and near the bottom of the window. Round the measurements up to the nearest 1/16″ and provide us with the largest measurement.
For System Width Measurements: Measure where you will be installing the roller shade. Round the measurement down to the nearest 1/16″.
Measuring the height:
Measure the height in 3 places – near the left side of the window, near the middle of the window, and near the right side of the window.
For each measurement, round up to the nearest 1/16″.
Provide us with the largest of the 3 measurements.
