Thank you so much for purchasing our EcoSmart 2.0 cellular window shades! To ensure that your installation goes as smoothly as possible, please read through these tips, which supersede any similar information in the current written instructions or videos. For general information on the basics of installing EcoSmart cellular shades, please see our Installing Cellular Shades page.

As you might know, we changed component suppliers last year and although we’re thrilled with the results, even we (despite our decades of experience) have been learning a few things along the way – particularly as it pertains to installing these amazing new shades. So while we are in the process of rewriting our installation instructions, we want to make sure you know what has changed or will change with the rewrite, so that you’ll be sure to have a successful installation!

  1. Your shades will have arrow stickers on the headrail (top, metal rail) of each shade. These are to indicate where the mounting brackets should be placed.
    • Please do not remove the stickers until the shade has been mounted.
    • By holding the shade in place where it will be mounted, you can then mark where the brackets should be installed (for example, with pieces of tape), using the stickers as your guide.
    • If the stickers are missing or removed, please refer to the applicable video below for bracket placement guidance, or give us a call to help you with bracket placement.
  2. When attaching the brackets, make sure they are in a straight line. If any are more forward or backward than the others, it can prevent the headrail from snaping onto the brackets.
  3. If mounting to a surface above the bracket, use only one screw and use the slotted/oval hole in the bracket, NOT the round hole towards the back of the bracket. This applies to most inside-mount (in which the brackets attach to the inside top of the window or door frame) and ceiling-mount situations.
  4. If mounting to a surface behind the bracket, use two screws, one in each of the two holes in the back of the bracket. This applies to most outside-mount situations.
  5. In any case, tighten the screws firmly so they do not interfere when installing the headrail.
  6. When placing the headrail onto the mounted brackets, make sure the front lip of each bracket goes inside the slot at the top of the headrail and not under it. This is best demonstrated in our general installation video, below.
  7. Generally speaking, if a shade has more than 3 brackets, it is best to have 2 people installing the shade. In particular, it helps to push on both sides of the shade simultaneously when snapping the headrail onto the brackets. It may also help to work from the middle of the shade first, then work on the ends.
  8. If the shade does not snap into the brackets when pushing straight up on the headrail, push both up and back towards the window simultaneously. This is more common with outside mount situations or when the brackets are otherwise butting up against a surface in the back.

Of course, if you have questions or if you follow these instructions and have any difficulty with your installation at all, please get in touch with us. We want this to be a relatively simple and stress-free endeavor and are happy to help make it so in any way we can!
