If you’re covering a floor-to-ceiling view or designing around a dramatic wall of windows, size matters—especially when it comes to your window shades.
At EcoSmart Shades, we get a lot of questions about long or wide shades. Can you really get a 12-foot-high shade? What’s the best option for big windows? Let’s break it down.
Roller Shades: The Best Choice for Big Windows

Roller shades are your go-to when it comes to height. We offer roller shades up to 12 feet tall—making them ideal for oversized windows, sliding doors, or entire glass walls.
Why are roller shades better for tall windows?
- They’re lighter in weight. Even when fully extended, roller shades can lift and lower without stressing the mechanism.
- More lifting options. Whether you choose a cord loop or a motorized system, roller shades can support the largest sizes and heaviest fabrics with ease.
Why Cellular Shades Have Size Limits

Cellular shades offer great insulation and a sleek look—but they aren’t the best fit for very tall windows.
- Cordless options max out faster. Cordless cellular shades just can’t handle the weight of a tall or wide design. They’ll stop operating properly if they get too big.
- Heavier construction. Even motorized or cord-loop cellular shades have size limits, and we’ve discontinued the “cell-in-cell” cordless option because it became too heavy to function reliably.
Ordering Tips for Extra-Wide Windows

If you’re covering a wide space—like an entire wall of windows—we recommend ordering multiple shades instead of one massive one. Not only does this improve functionality, but it also allows for easier control and maintenance.
Here’s how our shipping works:
- 92″ wide or less? Free shipping is included.
- Up to 104″ wide? Shipping is available for an added fee.
