Why Choose Motorized Top-Down/Bottom-Up Cellular Shades?

Top-down/bottom-up operation gives you more control over a window than a traditional bottom-up shade. Instead of simply choosing how much of the window to cover, you can decide which portion remains open.

For example, keep the lower part of a bedroom or street-facing window covered for privacy while lowering the top rail to bring daylight into the room. When you want maximum room darkening, close both portions of the shade.

How Does Motorized Top-Down/Bottom-Up Operation Work?

This shade uses MotionBlinds motors with Bluetooth technology to independently operate the upper and lower rails. A pull wand is positioned on each side of the shade, with one controlling the bottom and the other controlling the top.

You can operate the shade using:

• The attached pull wands
• The MotionBlinds smartphone app for Apple iOS or Android
• An optional 1-channel, 5-channel, or 15-channel remote
• An optional MotionBlinds Wi-Fi bridge for additional automation

The top-down/bottom-up system uses two rechargeable batteries, with a charging connection on each end of the headrail.

How Dark Are Blackout Cellular Shades?

EcoSmart room-darkening cellular fabrics block more than 99% of incoming light and UV rays through the fabric and provide complete privacy.

However, blackout fabric does not make the entire window opening completely light-tight. Small gaps naturally remain around the perimeter of an installed cellular shade, so some light leakage can be expected along all four edges.

Single-Cell or Cell-in-Cell Blackout Fabric?

Both fabric constructions use modern 3/4-inch honeycomb pleats and create insulating air pockets between the room and window.

Single-cell fabric contains one row of honeycomb cells and provides excellent insulation with a somewhat lighter shade construction.

Cell-in-cell fabric places an additional smaller cell inside each larger honeycomb cell. The added air pocket provides greater insulating performance and is a strong choice when energy efficiency is a major priority.

Add Side Tracks for Greater Light Control and Insulation

Compatible inside-mounted shades can be upgraded with EcoSmart Cellular Side Tracks.

The tracks cover the narrow gaps along the sides of the shade, helping reduce both edge light and airflow. They do not make the window completely light-tight or airtight, but they can improve both room darkening and thermal performance.

Side tracks require an inside mount, sufficient flat mounting depth, and a shade height of no more than 94 inches.
