While shopping for the right shades for your home, it’s helpful to know what your options are. As Cellular Shades represent a large portion of our inventory here at EcoSmart Shades, we created a guide to all things Cellular. So, what are Cellular Shades? Let’s get into it.
Introducing Cellular Shades
Cellular Shades are window shades constructed from fabric cells that expand and contract as the shade is raised and lowered. Also referred to as Honeycomb Shades for its cell-like structure, Cellular Shades provide shade and privacy while trapping air in each of its cells– insulating your home throughout the year.
All of our Cellular Shades are available in either single or double cell fabric and a variety of colors. While single cell fabric has just one layer of cells, double cell shades feature two layers of cells arranged slightly offset from each other.
Wondering which style is right for you? While single cell shades still offer the benefits of Cellular Shades, the way that the cells are arranged creates a clean look that many appreciate. Double cell shades, on the other hand, are more energy efficient.
Benefits of Cellular Shades
Similar to other shades on the market, Cellular Shades provide a simple way to control light and create a sense of privacy in your home. These shades are available in light-filtering or blackout fabric, so you can customize them to the unique needs of your space.
Additionally, many appreciate that by blocking light, Cellular Shades are blocking the UV rays that come with it. While you might not feel like you need to wear sunblock inside of your home, Cellular Shades act as a kind of “sunblock” for your furniture– preventing damage from the sun over time.
Insulation + Energy Savings
While most think that cutting down on their energy bill requires minimizing energy usage or investing in (often expensive) efficiency appliances, there’s another simple solution available to both renters and homeowners alike.
As mentioned above, Cellular Shades are designed to trap air within each cell, making them excellent insulators. In fact, according to Energy.gov, “Cellular shades save up to 20% on heating energy and up to 15% on total energy from heating and cooling,” an excellent solution for folks looking to cut down on their monthly energy bill.
Cellular shades are also known for their ability to reduce heat loss through windows, minimize drafts, and reduce unwanted heat gain from the sun.
