Why Choose Continuous Cord Loop Cellular Shades?

Continuous cord loop shades use an internal clutch-and-pulley system that allows the shade to move smoothly without requiring you to lift the bottom rail directly. Pulling one side of the loop raises the shade, while pulling the other lowers it.

This operating style works particularly well on larger or heavier cellular shades and accommodates windows up to 102 inches wide and 120 inches high. If you are comparing operation types, our Cellular Shade Styles guide explains the differences between continuous cord loop, cordless, twin pull, and motorized shades.

What Do Light-Filtering Cellular Shades Look Like in a Room?

Light-filtering cellular fabric is translucent rather than transparent. It diffuses direct sunlight into a softer glow, brightening the room without providing a clear view through the shade.

The fabric maintains privacy in most situations, but it is important to understand its limitations. A person or object positioned directly between a strong indoor light source and the shade may create a visible silhouette from outside, particularly with lighter fabric colors.

For bedrooms, media rooms, or other spaces where stronger light blocking and complete opacity are priorities, consider our Continuous Cord Loop Blackout Cellular Window Shades.

Single-Cell or Cell-in-Cell Fabric?

Both options feature 3/4-inch honeycomb pleats and provide excellent insulation, but their internal construction is different.

Single-cell fabric contains one honeycomb-shaped air pocket. It is lighter in weight, somewhat less expensive, and provides strong insulating performance.

Cell-in-cell fabric contains a smaller honeycomb cell inside the larger outer cell. This creates an additional insulating air pocket and provides somewhat greater thermal performance.

Both light-filtering versions have a white exterior-facing surface to help reflect heat and create a consistent appearance from outside the home. Learn more in our Cellular Fabric guide.

Are Light-Filtering Cellular Shades Energy Efficient?

Yes. Cellular fabric is constructed with pockets that trap air between the room and window, helping reduce heat transfer in both warm and cold weather. This makes cellular shades a strong option when you want to combine daylight and privacy with greater window insulation.

If thermal performance is an especially important part of your decision, compare the fabric constructions and test data in our Cellular Shade Insulation and R-Value guide.

Add Side Tracks for Even More Insulation

Compatible inside-mounted shades can be upgraded with EcoSmart Cellular Side Tracks. These tracks cover the small gaps along the sides of the shade and can help reduce airflow between the room and window.

Side tracks are especially worth considering when energy efficiency is a primary reason for choosing cellular shades.

Is Bottom-Up Operation Right for You?

This shade raises from the bottom like a traditional window shade. It is a straightforward option when you mainly want to control how much of the window is covered at any given time.

If you also want to lower the shade from the top, compare our Continuous Cord Loop Top-Down/Bottom-Up Light-Filtering Cellular Window Shades. Top-down/bottom-up operation is particularly useful on street-facing windows because you can cover the lower portion for privacy while allowing daylight to enter from above.

Continuous Cord Loop, Cordless, or Motorized?

Choose continuous cord loop operation when you want a durable manual system that can comfortably handle larger shades.

Choose Cordless Light-Filtering Cellular Window Shades when eliminating operational cords is a priority and your window falls within the cordless size range.

Choose Motorized Light-Filtering Cellular Window Shades for hard-to-reach windows or when remote, app, scheduled, or smart-home operation is preferred.
